As a child I can remember wearing saddle oxfords to school. But come Sunday morning no other shoes would do but my shiny black patent leather shoes. All little girls should have a pair to wear when dressed up in their best.
Early morning walk in the swirling snow down to the creek bed. This American Beech tree rightfully observed, glorious in its sober cinnamon...

I remember a pair of white patent leather shoes that I wore with a dress my mother had made me for Easter Sunday.
I still have the shoes and the dress, they hang in an old trunk I have on display in my 'work' room.
I remember HAVING to own a pair of saddle shoes for my school wardrobe one year. I wore them probably two times and realized none of the other girls had them. I was a few years late on the trend. I never wore them again and always felt guilty about how much they cost because I knew we didn't have much money.
Something else in common, two of our girls have also had red shoes as their first pair of shoes.
